Yes, OnlineU only includes accredited online schools on its site. UAA is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency. Agencies that confer accreditation conduct independent review processes of schools to ensure the following standards are upheld: ethical financial practices, high quality academic programs, and promises to students are kept. Additionally, agencies periodically review schools before they renew their accreditation status.

What Is UAA Known For?

Due to its unique location near some of the most remote and challenging parts of the world, UAA is known for being a hub of cutting-edge health, engineering, and physical and social science research to address the Artic's most significant problems. For example, UAA's College of Engineering tackles the challenges of humans weathering the arctic and subarctic conditions. Similarly, the College of Health Institute for Circumpolar Health researches the troubles and triumphs rural health organizations experience in delivering care to diverse populations.

UAA is also unique because — while primarily serving undergraduate students — it carries out a great deal of research, which is an advantage for undergraduate students who are eager to experience this kind of work in preparation for graduate studies.

Which Degrees at UAA Provide the Highest Earnings for Graduates?

UAA's online bachelor's degrees in construction management and nursing provide the highest earnings for graduates at median annual salaries of approximately $78,000 and $70,500, respectively. This is based on federal data from College Scorecard. Alternatively, OnlineU's proprietary Salary Score ranks colleges by how much their alumni earn compared to graduates with the same degree nationwide. While individual degree programs may have additional requirements, applying to UAA as an undergraduate student generally requires the following:

  • A completed free application (though late applications are subject to a $25 processing fee)
  • Official high school transcripts with a 2.5 minimum GPA or GED scores
  • Official college and/or military transcripts, if applicable
  • SAT and ACT scores are recommended (though not required)

I felt that the lower division classes weren't difficult, but that I was able to make them as challenging as I wanted to. For instance, I had to take English 121. I'd already taken upper division English classes and was expecting to be bored, but my professor was wonderful,... Read More
